I have requested a background check on a Provider. What happens next?

We immediately notify the care provider of your request to access their background check. When a care provider does not have a background check on file, we notify the provider that you have requested that they run a background check and make it available to you.

How do I interpret the results of a background check?

A background check includes Social Security Number Verification, Address Verification and History, and a Criminal Records search. Below is a description of the results that can be returned for each of these background check components.

Social Security Number Verification

Verified — The Social Security Number is valid and it matches the name of the care provider.

Not Verified — The Social Security Number is either not valid or it does not match the name of the care provider. The cause of the Social Security Number not matching the name of the care provider could be due to a recent name change or the care provider not providing their full legal name. However, this result may also indicate that the care provider attempted to run the background check with a Social Security Number that does not belong to them.

Address Verification and History

Verified — The address is associated with the first and last name of the care provider.

Not Verified — The care provider's address could not be associated with the first and last name entered into the background check form.

Criminal Records Search

No Records Found — The search of county, state and federal agencies did not return any criminal records for the care provider.

Records Found — The search of county, state and federal agencies returned one or more criminal records for the care provider. You can view the details to see the specific information returned in the background check.

Incomplete — The verification check was not run due to the Social Security Number being invalid.

How accurate are the results of a background check?

Every effort is made to ensure that the information contained in the background report is accurate and complete. However, because the results of the background check are comprised of data provided by various county, state and federal agencies, it is possible that these sources are not 100% accurate or complete. For example, Texas has several counties that offer their criminal information for database compiling. Likewise, the State of Texas collects information from all the counties and offers a statewide database. It is important to note that the data, by nature, may not be current due to the lag between the time a suspect is charged or case has been concluded and the time the data is actually reported to state, county and federal agencies.

Additionally, the information used to run the background check is provided by the care provider. For this reason, extreme care must be used in the review of the background check results and the background check should not be the sole basis for making a decision. Additional screening, such as an interview and checking references, is also important.

What information is covered in a background check?

The background check offered through LDSHelp4Hire.com is an instant and comprehensive report on public and private records associated with a care provider. A variety of sources are checked, including:

  • County Court Records
  • State Repositories
  • State Department of Corrections
  • Sex Offender information from all 50 states, including Washington D.C., Guam and Puerto Rico.
  • OFAC Terrorism Watch List
  • Denied Persons List
  • Interpol Most Wanted
  • And many other sources

The background check is displayed in three sections. These include:

  1. Social Security Number Verification - The care provider's Social Security Number is verified to ensure that it is a valid Social Security Number and that it is associated with the name and date of birth of the care provider.
  2. Address Verification and History – A history of the care provider's addresses is provided. For the safety of the care provider, street addresses are removed from the report.
  3. Criminal Records Search - A search of over 300 million criminal records is conducted to see if the user has a criminal record. Any results will be provided in the background check. Criminal records searched include state agencies such as county courts, Department of Public Safety, Department of Corrections and Administrative Office of Courts. The Sex Offender Registry is searched for 49 states, Washington D.C., Guam and Puerto Rico. Nevada Sheriff Departments directly provide data on sex offenders in their state. Additionally, national and international terrorism sources, more than 3.1 million photos and a proprietary database of previously completed reports, are searched.
